Selvage, from Montana to Maine, relishes chance to show
Mei Selvage has come a long way. Born in Sichuan, China, she moved to in Missoula, Montana, in 1997, to attend the state university there. She studied business administration, graduated, and was hired by IBM. She moved to Portland in 2010. Currently working as a research director at Gartner, Selvage is the inventor of more than 30 patents.
"I've always been dabbling around, trying different stuff like carpentry and pottery," she said. When she moved to Maine, she started painting more seriously. "I didn't know anyone (here) so art became a way to find ground for my search. It's going well, taken me very far – back to China again – on an internal journey looking at my own cultural heritage and finding my own personal truth in it."
